This evergreen ivy comes into it's own during autumn and winter when the glossy leaves turn very dark purple. The leaf is finer and more intricate than other hedera making it more interesting to have near a seating area or somewhere you might be able to study it in early morning light. It is also ideal for adding some winter interest to your garden.

'Clotted Cream' is a shrubby climber up to 1m high with five-lobed leaves, 5-6 cm across, which are dark green and pale grey-green variegated with cream; the young leaves emerge fairly flat in spring, but then become more waved with strongly frilled margins.

Hedera helix Needlepoint is a very pretty little ivy with a luxuriant glossy leaf with five points, the centre one of which, is particularly long and gives the plant its distinctive appearance and name.

The Irish Ivy or sometimes know as the Atlantic Ivy, has glossy green leaves which provide a dense covering plant, very useful to hide structure/walls and sheds. Grows as well in shade as it does the sun. 

Also known as the Golden Hop, humulus lupulus Aureus has possibly the most attractive and poetic name in my collection! This herbaceous climber is a strong growing plant with rough stems and large greeny-yellow leaves. Greenish fragrant flowers come in late summer followed by attractive clusters of hops which are beautifully ornamental.

Hydrangea petiolaris is a beautiful, self-clinging and climbing Hydrangea that produces a mass of large, white flower heads in the summer. This would make an excellent choice for growing against a sunny wall and will suit both older properties with traditional garden planting and more modern houses and does fit especially well where a contrast in dark cladding and pale planting is required.

Hydrangea seemannii is an elegant, self-clinging, climbing Hydrangea that produces a mass of large, greenish-white flowers surrounded by white bracts. With its large leathery leaves it makes an excellent privacy plant and would make an great choice for growing against a sunny wall or fence.

This strong-growing, twining climber, Jasminum beesianum produces clusters of sweetly scented deep pink flowers that are followed by small black berries. Although deciduous, it can be semi-evergreen in sheltered situations, and it requires free draining soil.

Jasminum humile 'Revolutum' is a semi-evergreen shrub with scented, bright yellow flowers in clusters during late spring and early summer. It will keep it's leaves in milder regions where winter temperatures do not get so cold.

My Winter Jasmine, jasminum nudiflorum looks a picture growing on my vintage tin workshop walls. Clusters of small yellow flowers appear from bare stems in the winter months, giving a delightful bright splash to dull areas and contrasts brilliantly with the dark green painted tin.
