A reliable performer with an abundance of summer flowers.

The group of clematis known as integrifolia are cultivated forms of the species which has a herbaceous habit and originates from Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, The Balkans, South Russia and further into parts of Asia.
Thanks to these origins, it is a very hardy plant and can cope easily with the weather in the UK and Europe, making it an easy clematis to grow for both the clematis enthusiast and the beginner.

Integrifolia 'Alba' has dainty nodding bell-shaped flowers of pure white with an occasional hint of blue at the base of the tepals and a sweet scent.
All the integrifolia are clump-forming scramblers, with non-clinging stems and can be allowed to scramble in herbaceous borders with other herbaceous plants and shrubs.
They are good 'front of border' plants, make excellent companions in beds of bush roses, they can also be grown in window boxes, hanging baskets or even cascading over the edge of a retaining wall.

These versatile little plants are also suitable to use as cut flowers and can last up to twenty days in water, so why not cut a few flowers for the table when you have guests round for dinner, or perhaps a button hole for your day out.
Integrifolia are all exceptionally hardy, trouble free and as with other herbaceous plants, they die back in winter to the ground and reshoot in the spring. Pruning is best left until around February to March and is very easy indeed. Cut all stems through just above the new shoots which will be around 2-3 inches above the soil.

The stems of 'Alba' and the other integrifolia will only grow to about 2-3 feet (60-90cm) in height so they are easy to place in most gardens.
They do not cling to a support so will scramble naturally unless given something like a herbaceous plant support or a small wigwam of bamboo canes to clamber up.

About Our Plants

At Thorncroft the quality of our clematis plants is very important to us and we will not compromise on keeping up the high standards our customers have come to expect.

We supply plants mostly in a 3 litre container, growing on a 3 foot (1 meter) bamboo cane support, occasionally a 2 litre pot is sufficient to ensure a quality plant is produced.  Your clematis can not always be delivered in full flower, however we will aim to send you the most advanced plant for you so that you get the best display possible in the first year of our plants being in your garden.

Chelsea Chop - Also from time to time we will need to prune plants back to keep them tidy on their cane. While every effort is made to only supply plants in full leaf we may on occasions send plants that have been recently pruned or had leaves removed and will include notes to explain why this has been done.  It's known as the 'Chelsea Chop' and is commonly seen in late May and June.

Please keep in mind that some of the more specialist clematis have different habits, so these standards can vary depending on the type you are buying but it gives you a good guide on what to expect.

From the very outset, the Thorncroft philosophy is to provide a clematis which will thrive for the customer in their garden but also to provide the expert knowledge that we have gained over the years to help advise you which clematis are the best.

We have been sending plants by mail order to customers all over the world and have build up a good knowledge of which plants perform best in various parts of the globe. We also value your experience and if would like to tell us about which clematis you grow in your country, please do, it will allow us to continue learning

Great Service

I ordered this clematis, along with 2 others on Monday this week, and they arrived on Thursday! Outstanding service. The plants are better than many that I have purchased in garden centres. They were well packed, clearly labelled, and I had a surprise addition - a "lost label" 4th clematis gratis with a smiley face.attached.
As an aside, the box made a great cat tunnel!
