Cultivation Advice.

Large flowered clematis prefer a good quality soil with high nutrient levels and a soil which is moist but free-draining. Improve planting holes with at least 2 forkfuls of well rotted manure or garden compost and if you don't have these use a 'Soil Improver' compost. The Improvement material added should be placed under the root of the plant not around it. This encourages the roots to grow downwards and remain deep and cool during summer. If your clematis flowers in May-June(late spring), cut the dead flower heads when they have finished to encourage a second set of flowers to be produced in the late summer and autumn. Be prepared to wait for a couple of years before they will be at their best - Our saying is - 1st year = Roots, 2nd year = Shoots, 3rd year = Flowers!

Lovely Plants

I have recently ordered 8 plants from Thorncroft. I have never done this on line before but was very impressed with the packaging of the plants, 1 hour slot delivery. The quality is excellent and they are now all planted. Two of the plants are flowering and look lovely. I am very pleased with Thorncroft and will not hesitate to order from them again,

Fantastic plant - great company

This is the first time I have purchased from Thorncroft and I have already recommended them to my daughter- a keen gardener. The plant arrived in excellent condition, well packaged and on time by courier. Web site is easy to use and the comprehensive instructions are invaluable. I must find space for more clematis as I’m tempted to order more.

Excellent large healthy plant

First time I have ordered from this nursery and would not hesitate to order again. Wonderful large healthy plant, carefully packaged and arrived promptly by courier. Can’t wait for all the fat buds to open and see the plant in flower.

Stunning

This really is a stunner. I bought it last year, and it produced some good blooms. I pruned it in accordance with the care instructions, and this year it has put on vigorous growth and is full of blooms. Very pleased with this purchase
