Clematis 'Kokonoe' - Striking and long flowering too.

Dark and sumptuous flowers on a versatile plant.

We have some exciting news!  We have now added to our collection this stunning new clematis. Kokonoe was short listed for the Chelsea Flower Show Plant of the Year Competition 2020 and is the sister plant to Taiga which we introduced at Chelsea in 2018 to a delighted gardening public.
We believe that Kokonoe will be as well received and we have some smashing plants ready for sale now!
Our clematis 'Kokonoe' plants are grown in a 3 litre pot and about 2 years old, so not like the small 9cm plants or 2 litre imported plants you will buy elsewhere.

A beautiful double flower head
The flower of 'Kokonoe' first opens very dark with long narrow tepals, as the bloom matures more petaloids from the large central boss open out to make it a rosette like bloom of the darkest royal purple. Each flower head hangs out elegantly from the plant on a long slender stem, so is easily enjoyed whether growing on an obelisk or trellis or at the back of a garden border.
A striking  plant for a feature pot on a nice simple support.
A cross between florida and integrifolia two very popular clematis species this clematis boasts a striking flower of the florida type clematis with it's flamboyant double heads on a long and dainty flower stem. It also has the prolific flowering nature of the integrifolia which bloom in great profusion through the summer months.

Beautiful in a container because of her prolific nature
Pruning is best carried out in the mid spring each year, cutting all the stems down to around 12-18 inches from the soil, just above a new shoot.
If you have the space, put the pot somewhere sheltered over the winter or into an unheated greenhouse to prevent it getting too wet.  If you have her planted in the garden, offer some protection from the elements, with a couple of layers of horticultural fleece cloth pegged into place over the bottom two foot of the stems.
