Here we have a list of clematis that are possibly rare or hard to find, maybe they are something we have only a few or are popular with plant collectors.
This is the place to find those clematis and climbers that will be something different to the 'run of the mill' varieties.
Some of these plants will require more particular care and attention but are worth the extra effort.

These intriguing, dusky purple nodding urn-shaped flowers are completely covered with brown hairs. A semi-herbaceous clematis that dies down over the winter and shoots at the crown.

Clematis Golden Dream

The light to golden-yellow double nodding bell-shaped flowers open from pale lime green buds and mature to lemon yellow with age having a delightful grapefruit scent. Blooms are most prolific in May but continue sporadicly through June. July and August.

The wonderful rosette-like double blooms are light pink with rich pink marbling that merges towards the rich pink outlined margins. As the blooms mature they become pale pink & later flowers are single.

His regal looking blooms have pale grey-blue margins that merge to a white bar and are offset by a crown of wine-red stamens. The early blooms are occasionally semi-double.

Dainty bell-shaped flowers are a dull claret colour inside with a cream reverse and have cream anthers. The plant was discovered as a sport of 'Freckles' in 1995 by Merv Jerard of Lansdowne Valley, Christchurch, New Zealand. Often misspelt clematis 'Landsdown Gem'

Launched by Thorncroft Clematis - LAVALLEE No.1 has rich deep bluey-purple flowers that blend to an almost white bar in the centre of the tepal and very prominent purple stamens like luxurious eyelashes in the centre.

Clematis orientalis var. orientalis

Clematis orientalis var. orientalis has masses of small pale creamy-yellow bell-shaped flowers that have a bright yellow inside and sometime a reddy-brown outside. The blooms are produced through mid summer to late autumn followed by an abundance of silvery seed-heads.

A native of the USA, it has glossy deep purple to purply-red nodding pitcher shaped flowers. Colour can vary slightly dependent on aspect and soil type. This rare species is a semi-herbaceous, deciduous climber that thrives in the sun.

Glorious purply-bronze foliage with clusters of small white star-shaped flowers that have a hawthorn-like perfume. The foliage is at it's best in the spring and requires some support to keep it upright in a herbaceous border.
